I’ve been a Call of Duty fan for a long time, and I’ve played every
game in the franchise. Like most fans, I was looking forward to playing
Black Ops II. I was intrigued by the branching storylines, and was
looking forward to more addictive FPS gameplay.
The single player campaign was a lot of fun. I liked how it focused
on two connected storylines. It helped keep things fresh and interesting
throughout the campaign. In other Call of Duty games, the story has
started to drag and points. This game really fixed that problem.
My favorite part of the story was the choices the game gave me. There
were times where I could choose whether someone should live or die, or
where I was tasked with making a difficult decision. It made me really
want to replay the story to see what else would happen. Once you’ve
finished single player, it’s easy to go back and see what would have
changed if you made a different decision.
While I didn’t mind it, players should know that this game is very
gory, even for Call of Duty. There were some scenes in the single player
campaign that made me flinch a little. Sometimes it was realistic, and
other times it was a little on the silly side. It’s definitely not a
game I would recommend for kids.
Unsurprisingly, the highlight of Black Ops II is the multiplayer.
There are some great new features that really make things more exciting.
For example, there’s a new loadout system that lets you assign points
to every aspect of your loadout. You can put points into guns or
tactical items if that’s the way you prefer to play. It really let me
customize the experience.
I also thought the multiplayer mode did a great job of assessing my
skill level. When I play some games online, I feel like I get matched up
with players who are either way better than me or way worse. After a
few initial matches, I really felt like I was playing people at my
level. It made multiplayer a lot less frustrating.
As a PC gamer, I was a little annoyed that the game seemed downgraded
for the benefit of console gamers. Black Ops II looks good, but it’s
not on par with the best looking
PC games on the market. It’s a shame more developers don’t optimize their games for PCs.
While I loved the new features, I did feel like Black Ops II was more
of the same. I like the Call of Duty experience, but I wish they’d
experiment a little bit more. The new content is generally great, but I
want to see more of it and less of the same old.
Ultimately, if you’re a Call of Duty fan, you should buy this game.
The choices make the campaign really interesting, and multiplayer is a
blast. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it does show players a good
time.
